Moving Tips
We would like to help make your move as enjoyable as possible.
General Guidelines
Here are a couple things things that will help you have a better moving experience.
Letting us know what you need to move and where. Letting us know how many bedrooms or offices are involved, how many square feet of space and how full that space is. Are there any heavy or difficult items?
Do you need to take certain items apart? Will all the items fit in the new place or do you need to store or dispose of items? This will let us know what size vehicle you need, how many people we need and what special tools we may need to bring.
Tell us how much work you want to do yourself. Some people enjoy being hands on in everything they do, others feel more comfortable delegating so that they may deal with other things. It’s important to let us know what you want to do and not do. We do request that your most important items like money, jewellery, passports etc… always be dealt with directly by you.
Let us know what items need special attention. We want you to do whatever makes you the most comfortable and be in control of how much time and materials are put into the move. The movers will always make sure that your items are moved and packaged safely but some items need more time and care with the packaging. Blanket wrapping in the truck is generally quite safe and is the fastest way to do a move. However, when special care must be taken not to mark the furniture or walls, then item specific protection must be used.

Planning For A Pleasant Move
Most small or medium sized moves comes with two movers. Some customers may want to help themselves to save money however please be honest with yourself and your movers about what you do and don’t want to do. If you have large, heavy or awkward items please request at least two movers so that there aren’t complications and the move may go smoothly. If an item is very heavy or awkward- like a piano- be sure to get dimensions and weight and pictures of the item and dimensions of the access areas so we know how many movers we need and how we may plan to move the item. There is no point starting a move if we aren’t sure we can finish it without risk or damage or at least have an alternative plan.
For larger sized moves it may be a good idea to have an extra mover or two because of the wrapping and packaging that needs to be done, time constraints with elevators and such. As well, having an extra set of hands will help reduce the overall cost incurred from the hourly cost of the moving truck.
Factoring Time For Different Stages Of The Move
Deciding how much time you need for different aspect of the move can be quite important. Elevator booking can be unforgiving and some buildings only allow access for set pre booked hours. It is a good idea to have everything prepacked and prepared if you have a set window of time available or if you want to reduce costs.
Loading always takes much longer than unloading. Expensive items you may want to pad and tape or shrink wrap to keep the item and walls mark free. Stacking furniture safely in the truck is a process and takes time.
Off loads are much quicker. Taking off pad and unboxing is much quicker than packaging as well.
Access is an important factor. Knowing the shortest routes and saving parking spots or reserving loading zones will be quite helpful.
Reserving the elevator if possible is a must. Having it ready so the movers have access for when they arrive will save you time and money.
Knowing the time you will be on the road will help as well. Driving thru rush hour a long distance is not what you want. Avoiding driving from 8am to 9:30am and 3:30 pm to 5:30 pm will help cut your time.
When there is not much padding, wrapping, packing, there is not a huge amount of items to move, there isn’t to much of a drive to your new home than here are some sample times you may expect for a move.
